RETIRED SPORTS EDITOR HOBBS NEWS SUN

As sports editor of the Hobbs News-Sun for 24 years, Manny Marquez spent a lot of time talking with Ralph Tasker from 1970 through 1994.

 

Voted Sportswriter of the Year in 1983 by the New Mexico Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association, 

 

 

Marquez later served one year as news editor and seven years as editor of the News-Sun before retiring in 2003.

He was inducted into the Lea County Athletic Hall of Fame in 2011.

Max Houston Proctor

AUTHOR, PLAYER, STUDENT

Max Houston Proctor played for Ralph Tasker from 1965-1967. During his junior year, the team won a State Championship with a record of 28-0. And during his senior year, the teams record was 25-1. Mr. Proctor was a part of the team that held the the longest winning streak in Hobbs High history (53-0).

Mr. Proctor established and still holds the Hobbs High School records for the most consecutive free-throws, 46, made during competition and the best free-throw percentage, 92.8%, for someone shooting over 75 free-throws during a year.
